“But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”
Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)
Why do we celebrate Christmas in the conduct we do? Why spend it with the people who barely know us and only see us once a year? Why not focus on those who are there for us throughout the year, good or bad? Family. The people we call family are the ones we find ourselves having our winter feast with. Though “family” is simply the people who come from the same bloodline. “Family” may not even know your name. So why spend this celebration of love with them?
What about the ones we stay close to throughout the year. The people we call friends. “Friends” know you better than you do. They know your struggles, strengths, they were there when you fell and encouraged you to climb higher. Even their mere presence made your day.
Still we sit and ask who people are as if we never met. Don’t feel bad you only see them once a year, on the day you’re supposed to spend with those you love most.
So merry Christmas to sitting next to strangers. Here’s to texting your best friend under the table, as they’re the person you actually want to be with. I wish your real family a happy new year.
