Angels Unaware by Van Daele S. Mabrito

Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy. Luke 2: 10 (NKJV)

Christmas! Our celebration of Messiah’s birth, announced by God’s

God’s word declares He assigns His angels to assist the heirs of salvation.
Angels usually intervene unbeknownst to us. We may even “entertain
angels unaware.”

As an infant, my parents feared whether I would survive a lifethreatening
illness. Yet God marvelously intervened, and spared my life.

During my boyhood, my always-early father arrived late at the airport to
watch his business flight taking off—which crashed, killing all aboard.
Another time, friends and I awaited a missionary I’d been dating to
deboard her plane—but she wasn’t on it. Worried, we discussed what to
do. Suddenly, a man in a loud, orange Hawaiian shirt turned to us. “She’s
on the next flight.” And she was. I asked her about the man in the orange
shirt. “There wasn’t any guy like that,” she declared.

Once downcast and disheartened, I walked the park-like grounds of a
seminary I frequented. Suddenly, an old man I’d never seen approached
me. “Why did God create man?” I fumbled with an answer. He declared,
“No. God created man to give him the Happiness of Heaven.” His answer
riveted my soul with a hope that remains.

Father God, thank you for the announcement of Messiah’s birth
by angels, and your assistance through them in our lives. Amen.
