Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby
wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:11-12 (NIV)
The Lord spoke to a man named Joseph, who was engaged,
A man of less faith would have laughed, or become enraged.
Told his promised virgin was chosen and would conceive,
And bear God’s Son, who from heaven would be on leave.
Fulfilling God’s promise, through the prophets of old,
A child was born as had been foretold,
In a stable, wrapped in swaddling clothes.
The infant had enemies and faced many foes.
Named Jesus, our Savior was poor and plain,
With patience and wisdom God’s will, He explained.
Brought God’s unearned love, through time and space,
God’s extravagant love is defined as grace.
Everlasting life for us, through His love, He sought,
By His perfect sacrifice, our souls He bought.
With belief and repentance, our salvation we rejoice,
He leaves it up to us, and abides by our choice.
Lord, thank you for the wonderful gift of your son Jesus,
our savior and Lord. May we always remember to give you
honor and glory from our hearts. Amen.
