Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14 (ESV)
I paced the hospital labor and delivery room, anxiously waiting for
the birth of my granddaughter. I had arrived two weeks prior, the
week before her due date, in case she came early. But she did not.
The week dragged by and her due date came and went. Another
week dragged by and still we waited. Her momma, daddy, and I
were ready to gaze upon her sweet face, to hold her, to love her.
We longed to behold her.
But often, our longing involves waiting.
So it is each Christmas. We remember, just as the Jews waited
many long years for their promised King (Jeremiah 23:5), we also
wait for His promised return (Revelation 22:12). We are ready to
gaze upon His sweet face, to hold Him, to love Him. We long to behold
Him. Yet the years drag by and we wait.
In that hospital room, after 36 long hours, the time drew near.
When she arrived, what a beautiful sight she was to behold.
One day, too, after our long wait, our hope will be fulfilled; the day
of his glorious return will come (Titus 2:13). When that day arrives,
what a beautiful sight He will be to behold.
Heavenly Father, encourage us as we wait patiently
for You to fulfill Your promise, as we wait with an eager hope
for the day when we behold our Savior.
