All that Glitters by Monica Clegg

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has
done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

As children, my siblings and I often made Christmas ornaments at
school or church to give to our parents. Mom and Dad proudly hung
each and every treasure object on the tree. It wasn’t until we became
teenagers that we realized just how scraggly they were and jokingly
gave them nicknames. Danny’s scrawny paper Santa became the
Grinch. Sonia’s star fashioned out of a Styrofoam ball, straws, and
gold spray paint was dubbed “the asteroid.” Martee’s clothespin and
paper towel jack-in-the-box just made us laugh.

Our evening of tree decorating filled us with memories, hot chocolate,
and laughter. Still, when every ragtag bauble and bit found a
place on the tree, Dad plugged in the lights and the room transformed.
That loving feeling and warm glow stayed with us through
the holiday season.

How blessed we are to have a Heavenly Father who makes this transformation
in us daily. He takes our ragtag bits, failed attempts, and
tarnished habits and creates something beautiful. He gives us all a
chance to shine from beginning to end.
Sweet Father, thank you for loving me enough to take my feeble
attempts and missed steps and turn them into something lovely.
Help me to shine your light wherever I go. Amen.
