Fear Not, Joseph by Richard Barnett

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of
David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,
because what is conceived in her is from the
Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20-21 1 (NIV)

Fear not; peace, Joseph dear,
Fear not: take Mary home;
Because God’s Spirit breathed on her,
God’s own Son she will bear.

Fear not: name Him Jesus;
Fear not as he grows in grace,
For He comes to save his people
According to God’s Word.

Fear not when God calls Him
To go about His work,
For he must roar like a Lion
Against this world’s evil.

Teach Him your craft, Joseph,
And how to build on Rock:
He’ll found an eternal Kingdom,
A Temple in each heart.
Heavenly Father, O shape our lives as you did Joseph’s,
to share in building your Kingdom. Amen

To the tune of “Breathe on Me, Breath of God.” Number 316 in
The Presbyterian Hymnal (Louisville, KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 1990)
